George William "Bill" Arrowood, 69, of Lancaster, SC, passed away on July 14, 2024. Born in Charlotte, NC, Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who left a lasting impact on his family and community.
Bill graduated from Belmont Abbey College before honorably serving in the U.S. Navy for seven years, attaining the rank of Hospital Corpsman Petty Officer 1st Class. Throughout his military career, which included serving in the Gulf War, he was recognized with numerous commendations and medals for his service. His dedication to his country was profound and marked by exemplary service.
Following his honorable discharge, Bill embarked on a meaningful career as a Prosthetician, where he dedicated his life to restoring mobility and function to countless individuals. His work not only improved lives but also brought hope and healing to many.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sylvia Arrowood; daughter, Jennifer Jenkins, her husband Michael, and their children, Carter and Nathan; son, Christopher Arrowood; stepdaughter, Veronika Bongo, her husband Jeannot, and their children, Eliora Bahemuka and Menashe Bongo; stepson, Peter Stypa, his wife Carol, and their children, Theodore and Lilah; stepdaughter, Natasha Stypa and her fiancé, Miles Huckaby. He is survived by his sisters Patricia Barnard, Barbara (Bill) Yaeger, Mary (Joseph) Brown, and Susan (Tony) Armentrout. Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Arrowood, and father, William Jesse "W.J." Arrowood.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 25, from 5-7 pm at Jerry Hartley Funeral Home in Lancaster, SC; funeral services will be Friday, July 26, at 1:00 pm at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC. Jerry Hartley Funeral Home is assisting the family with
arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to US Vets or a veteran's charity of your choice in memory of Bill, honoring his service and commitment to fellow veterans.
Bill's legacy of service, both in the military and his professional life, as well as his dedication to his family, will forever be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
