Kershaw, SC
Gerald Saindon
February 15, 1939 – March 21, 2026
Gerald Saindon, 87, of Kershaw, South Carolina, passed away on March 21, 2026.
He is survived by his loving wife, Colette; his children, Michael (Sheryl), Jacqui (Russell), and Julie (Tommy); his brothers, Roland (Mona) and Martin; his sisters, Florence, Therese, Yvette (Albeo), and Ann-Marie; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Philip, Danielle, Tyler, Nicole (Joshua), and Alyssa (Michael); and six great-grandchildren, Nathalie, Nathaniel, Jordan, Carter, Ronan, and Emersyn.
Born in New Brunswick, Canada, Gerald met Colette of Van Buren, Maine, while ice skating on the Saint John River. They later married and settled in Connecticut, where Gerald worked as a mechanic and raised their family. After many years of camping in northern Vermont, they built a home near Lake Willoughby and eventually relocated there permanently. During this time, Gerald became a United States citizen and served on the Lake Willoughby town council. He especially enjoyed fishing and hunting with friends in the area.
As his health declined, Gerald and Colette moved to Kershaw, South Carolina, to be closer to their daughter Julie, who helped care for them. They spent their final year and a half together in an assisted living facility in Lancaster, South Carolina.
Gerald was a highly respected mechanic, known as a dependable “Mr. Fix-It” with the ability to build or repair nearly anything. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
