Johnny Hughes

LANCASTER, S.C.  Mr. Johnny Hughes age 71 husband of Rachel Jones Hughes died Saturday Evening October 14, 2023 at his home under the care of hospice.  Johnny was born June 24, 1952 in Chester, S.C. a son of the late Colie Hughes and Mildred Bradley Hughes and married to Rachel Jones Hughes for 37 years.

Johnny was a member of Liberty Freewill Baptist Church where he served in many capacities  he retired from  KennaTex in Philadelphia, Pa. as a Tech Service Manager, then became owner of Red Hawg Pork Skins, and was a very special part-time employee with the Jerry Hartley Funeral Home in Lancaster, he was a person that you could count on, and loved his work here.  He often told me if he was younger, he would have gotten into the funeral business a long time ago. He loved his Family, his Funeral Home Family, hunting, fishing, cooking boiled peanuts, and pork skins, and talking about the lord.

The Funeral Service for Johnny will be 3 P.M. Wednesday October 18, 2023 at Liberty Freewill Baptist Church by Rev. Tim Larrimore, and Rev. Mitch Ingram.with burial at Lancaster Memorial Park. The Family will receive friends from 1 P.M. until 2:45 P.M. at Liberty Freewill Baptist Church on Wednesday October 18, 2023.

Johnny is survived by his wife of 37 years Rachel, 1 Son Brian Small (Scarlett) of Lancaster, 1 Daughter April H. Ramey (Mike) of Chester, 8 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren, 1 Brother Richard Hughes (Barbara) of McConnells, 4 Sisters, Pat Coates (Emerson) of Kershaw, Ann Cloud, Colleen Littlejohn (Dean) and Dell Connor (Brian) all of Chester.

Johnny was preceded in death by a son Donald Small and 2 Brothers Albert Hughes, and Jerry Hughes.
