Leonard Allen "Chicken" Steele

LANCASTER, S.C. Mr. Leonard Allen "Chicken" Steele age 94 husband of Helen Brawley Steele died Monday May 26, 2025 at his home under the care of Hospice. The Memorial Cremation Service for Mr. Steele will be 2 P.M. Friday May 30, 2025 at Springdell Baptist Church by Rev. Donald Tillman, and Rev. Dr. Steve Stewart. The Visitation will take place from 1-2 P.M. at Springdell Baptist Church.

After the service the Military will perform their full Military Rites for Mr. Steele at the church.

Mr. Steele was born in Lancaster County September 7, 1930  a son of the late Robert L. Steele and the late Hattie Bell Mahaffey Steele and was married to Helen Brawley Steele for sixty -five years.  Mr. Steele was a member of Springdell Baptist Church, and owned and operated the former Catoe Grocery  and Lynwood Grocery for many years, was a Veteran in the U.S. Army having served in Korea.

Mr. Steele is survived by his wife Helen Brawley Steele of the home, a daughter Teresa Anne Harrington Stewart and her husband the Rev. Dr. Steve Stewart, three Grandchildren, Bryan Alan Stewart and wife Tammy, Joshua Raymond Stewart and his wife Amanda, and Charity Rebecca Stewart , Six Great Grandchildren Gaige, Jayden, Trinity, Luke, Levi, and Luna Rey; Four Great Great Grandchildren Mariah, Melanie, Tiffany, and Justice. One niece Sheila Gallman.

Mr. Steele is preceded in death by two sisters Edna Steele Neal, and Ruby Steele.  Five brothers Claude Steele; Robert Steele; William Steele;  Ben Steele and Merdic Ray Steele.
