Lynn Riner Whitesell

Lancaster, S.C. Mrs. Lynn Riner Whitesell, age 92, flew home to meet Jesus face to face on February 12, 2024.

A brief memorial service and visitation is planned for Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 11 AM at Jerry Hartley Funeral Home on 684 Hubbard Drive, Lancaster, SC (803)285-8000. A private family scattering of ashes will follow at New Cut Cemetery.

Mrs. Whitesell was born to Minnie and Ervin Riner on 4/7/1931 in Lancaster County. She enjoyed a wonderful life with her parents and 3 older brothers; Bruce, Kenneth and Paul.  Upon winning a full scholarship to nursing school after her graduation from Buford High School, she graduated from Greenville General Hospital and earned her RN license. That same year, she married her high school sweetheart, William E. Whitesell, III, and they traveled the US and later the world, taking along their three children Bill IV, Lark and Terri Lynn on many adventures.

Mrs. Whitesell is predeceased by her husband, Bill, and by a son in law, Danny McMurray.

Mrs. Whitesell is survived by their 3 children; Bill Whitesell and wife Chikako, of Seattle and their 2 daughters Sarah and Emilie Whitesell of San Francisco, their elder daughter, Lark Whitesell Long and husband, Carl, of Wellford and their children ;  Mallory Long Treece and husband, David, and two daughters, Amelia and Ansley Treece, and Cooper and Laura Anderson Long and their son, Henry, and their youngest son, Ian Long ,his wife, Heather and son , Callen Long and the Whitesell's younger daughter, Terri Lynn Whitesell McMurray.

Mrs. Whitesell shared her gifts of compassion, healing, and administration as a Registered Nurse in 3 foreign countries and multiple states over 50+ years of service. Her love for her Savior was shown daily in her care for her family, her friends and her patients.

She was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, she suggested a donation to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Samaritan's Purse.
