Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.

LANCASTER, S.C. Mrs. Maxine Stroud Roof, age 95 wife of the late Charles Ray Roof, Sr, passed away Tuesday August 25, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 14, 1931, in Bat Cave, North Carolina.

The Graveside Funeral Service for Maxine will be 3:00 PM Friday August 28, 2026 at Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum, and entombment will be by her late husband Charles Ray Roof, Sr.

Maxine lived a life centered on work, family, and faith. She retired from Lancaster Telephone Company and later worked at Walmart for 16 years after her retirement. She loved taking care of her yard, her children, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also strong in her religious beliefs, which remained an important part of her life.

She is survived by her children, Charles Ray “Buddy” Roof, Ricky P. Roof, and Judy Roof Davis. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law, Sandra Roof and Faye, one son in law Robin Davis. Her family was a great joy in her life, and that love continued through the generations. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Chucky Steele, Ginger Clark, Kelly McAninch, Amanda Baxter, Courtney Roof and Carla Coye, as well as her great-grandchildren, Emmaly Clark, Nathan Rodd, Camden Rodd, Levi Rodd,Cora Clark, Hannah Coye and Madelyn Coye. She will be remembered with love by all who shared in her family circle and knew the care and devotion she gave so freely.

Maxine was raised by her additional family Rev. G.C. Grier and his wife Mrs. Willie Grier, her brothers, Sonny Grier. (Deceased), Bill Grier, (Living) T.R. Grier (Deceased) Wesley Grier (Living) Marshall Grier, (Living), Sisters Jettie Caskey (Deceased) Bonnie Galloway (Deceased), Edria Payne (Deceased) Barbara Hefley (Deceased) Sandra Carnes,(Living) Susan Maciariello (Living) She loved them all very much.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Charles Ray Roof Sr, and a daughter Patricia Roof Steel,  and her parents Samuel Preston Stroud, and her mother, Aileen Morton Stroud.
