Michael Starnes

Michael Eugene Starnes, of Lancaster, South Carolina, passed away on December 1, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Mike was a loving father, brother and Pawpaw. As a strong believer in Christ, Mike lived his life as a devoted Christian man whose faith guided every step he took. He had a gentle spirit and unwavering love for others that made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Mike had a deep love for playing and coaching basketball, becoming one of the winningest coaches in Lancaster County recreational history. He also enjoyed martial arts, fishing, listening to and playing the harmonica, studying his Bible, and spending time at cookouts where he was happiest surrounded by those he loved. His warmth, kindness, and humor filled every room he entered, and his encouragement and faith left a mark on countless hearts.

Mike is survived by his two sons, Jaren (wife Ellen; children Joseph, Benjamin, and Ethen) and Jason (wife Amy; children Victoria, Jason Jr., and Taylor). He is also survived by his brothers, Ricky (wife Debbie), Jimmy (wife Sandra), Danny (wife Sylvia) and his sister Deborah, and thirteen nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Marie Starnes; his beloved daughter, Gina Michele Starnes; and his brother-in-law, Mark.

Funeral services for Mike will be held at Jerry Hartley Funeral Home on December 7th, 2025. The family will receive friends from 2:00–3:00 PM, with the service to follow at 3:00 PM in the chapel. Burial will take place afterward at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mike's legacy will live on through his family and all who were blessed to know him. Though he will be deeply missed, the family finds comfort in knowing he is now at peace in the presence of his Savior.
